Restyled Corolla: First 2001 Toyota to Arrive at Dealerships

TORRANCE, Calif. - The restyled Toyota Corolla is the first 2001 model in
the company's full line of vehicles to arrive at dealerships nationwide.

On sale now, the Corolla has been synonymous with reliability, quality and
value for more than 33 years. Since its introduction, more Corollas have been
sold worldwide than any other nameplate.

"Corolla continues this coveted image for 2001 with a variety of
customer-oriented upgrades that bring it to a new level of refinement," said
Don Esmond, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division
for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

Numerous refinements to exterior styling give Corolla a more expressive
and aggressive image. Corolla's exterior has been enhanced with a fresh new
front fascia that features aerodynamic multi-reflector halogen four-beam
headlights, chrome-plated trim and a lowered front bumper. New taillights
with round reverse lamps match the circular high-beam lights for a consistent
overall appearance. There are color-keyed body side moldings on select models
for a clean, flush exterior.

Interior enhancements offer more convenience and comfort. There are new
seat fabrics, push-button air recirculation control for easier operation and
the LE grade has adopted a rearview mirror with integrated map lights. In
select models with automatic transmissions, there are now rear dual cup
holders and a larger center console compartment with armrest for more storage
capacity.

Corolla is available in three different trim levels: CE, LE, and the new
sporty S. All models are powered by an in-line four-cylinder, 1.8-liter,
16-valve, DOHC, all-aluminum engine with Variable Valve Timing with
intelligence (VVT-i) technology. This extremely lightweight, compact, and
high performance engine achieves excellent fuel economy and low emissions.
The Corolla is clean enough to be certified as a low emission vehicle (LEV).
The engine produces 125 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 125 lb./ft. of torque at
4,000 rpm.

All Corollas are equipped with a standard five-speed manual transmission.
The S and LE grades are available with a four-speed electronically controlled
automatic transmission. The CE trim level also is available with a
three-speed automatic transmission.

Corolla's exceptional fuel economy has been further improved. Models
equipped with the five-speed manual transmission now deliver a city/highway
EPA mileage estimate of 32/41 mpg. CE models with the three-speed automatic
transmission achieve a mileage estimate of 29/33 mpg and Corollas with the
four-speed automatic transmission carry a mileage estimate of 30/39 mpg.

2001 Corolla is the first Toyota model to offer a safety inside-trunk
release. Additional safety features include side door impact beams, front and
rear energy absorbing crumple zones, center high-mounted stop light, front
seat belt pretensioners and force limiters, three-point front seatbelts with
adjustable shoulder belt anchors, three-point rear seatbelts in all seating
positions, driver and front passenger airbags, optional driver and front
passenger seat-mounted side-impact airbags, child protector rear door locks,
daytime running lights and hood hold-down hooks.

The new S grade provides a sporty image with standard features that
include unique wheel covers, black manual remote control mirrors, integrated
fog lamps, intermittent windshield wipers. The vehicle pleases the eye from
any angle as the exterior is further enhanced with color-keyed rocker panel
moldings, rear mudguards, front grille and protective body side moldings.
Inside there are adjustable bucket seats with special sport fabric, a covered
center console box with integrated sunglasses holder, red illuminated
instrument cluster with a tachometer and outside temperature gauge and
simulated leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Corolla offers numerous exterior and interior color combinations. The
Corolla is available in eight exterior colors: Super White, Silverstream
Opalescent, Black Sand Pearl, Sandrift Metallic, Woodland Pearl and Mystic
Teal Mica. Impulse Red and Indigo Ink are new for 2001. Three new seat
fabrics are available in different combinations with exterior colors.

All U.S. market Corollas are North American-built at New United Motor
Manufacturing, Inc. in Fremont, Calif., and Toyota Motor Manufacturing,
Canada, in Cambridge, Ontario.
