Ward's Reports Estimated Production

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 9 Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada
and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 384,497 units, up from the 348,730
cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.
Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 8,570,486 vehicles, up 3.9 percent from like-1999's pace.
In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 280,593 vehicles this
week, an increase of 15.4 percent from the 243,093 cars and trucks built last
week. To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
6,276,848 units, up 3.0 percent from the 6,096,905 vehicles built in like-
1999.
This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 67,505, a
0.9 percent increase from the 66,885 units assembled last week. Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,481,787 units, up
2.6 percent from the 1,443,884 vehicles produced in like-1999.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.8 percent; Ford Motor Co., 29.5 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.7 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.8
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.5 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.9
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.0 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.6 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.5 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.1 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.6 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.4 percent.
