Fiat to Spend $50 million on Internet Marketing Projects

8 June 2000

Italy - Following in the footsteps of other world wide automakers, Fiat
announced plans on Wednesday to develop its own online buying service and
explore relationships with General Motors in GM's Internet projects. The
online buying service would include all Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia models.

Fiat insisted that this is not a process to circumvent its dealer.
The new buying service will be more of an interface between consumers and
dealers. It will allow the customer to build-out the vehicle to their own
specifications and arrange for direct financing.

The plans were revealed by Fiat's CEO, Roberto Testore, who said that his
company and GM the two companies might share common systems and procedures
for in-car computers. However, Mr. Testore, said that Fiat was well along
in the introduction of its own Internet related systems, which include in-car
e-mail service, Internet capabilities, and the ability to download music
straight from the net.

On another note, Mr. Testore restated Alfa Romeo's determination to
re-enter the US market in 2004.
