N2H2 and Chevron Select Students' Cars of the Future
7 June 2000
Three-Month Online Campaign Stresses Science, Environment
SEATTLE - N2H2, Inc. , a leading Internet infrastructure company specializing in filtering, Internet management, and content delivery services, today announced the winners of its three-month Chevron Cars Future Car Writing Contest. The campaign was a fully integrated sponsorship on N2H2's education portal Searchopolis.com (both in the top navigation frame and within such curriculum content units as Science and Math) and on the N2H2 ResourceBar, which appears on every Web page served through the N2H2 Bess(R) Filtering System.
Along with interactive voting for their favorite Chevron Toy Car, students were encouraged to visit an "Inspiration Station" created by N2H2 on www.ChevronCars.com, which contained samples of entries to inspire students to participate in the Chevron Cars Future Car Writing Contest. Offline elements of the campaign included promotion of the Chevron Toy Cars Contest at nine education tradeshows and email notices to school technology coordinators nationwide. Winning entries can be viewed at http://www.searchopolis.com/chevron/winners.html.
In tandem with N2H2's goal of enhancing productivity in the classroom, this campaign delivered valuable technology learning tools to both the winner and his/her classroom. The grand prize winner of a computer system for his classroom, a $500 savings bond, a Diamond Rio Digital(TM) MP3 Player, and a digital camera, is Corey from Allentown, PA. Corey's Chevron Chameleon 3000 is so smart, it can actually split itself in half to avoid an oncoming collision.
According to Corey's proud mom, "Whenever I need Corey, I just know I'll find him downstairs typing away at the computer. He's constantly creating stories, poems, songs, or even jokes. He dreams of being a writer one day. Winning this contest brings him that much closer to making his dream a reality. I think that educational Internet contests, like Chevron's, not only encourage our young, but literally bring opportunities to their very fingertips!" Two finalists also received $500 savings bonds and computer systems for their classrooms.
"As a market leader in education, N2H2's sponsorship relationship with Chevron Cars demonstrates our ability to help further build trusted consumer brands within this space," said Peter Nickerson, CEO and President of N2H2. "Our sponsors, such as Chevron, Nickelodeon, Toshiba and Microsoft, are helping classrooms harness the power of the Internet through Bess and Searchopolis for a safer and more productive education experience."
"We are thrilled that the Chevron Toy Cars Future Car Writing Contest inspired so many creative entries," said Chris Comis of Insight + Strategy + Logic, the Chevron internet professional services agency for this project. "In fact, an entire classroom in California entered our contest, proving that a thoughtful Internet promotion can stimulate learning and imagination."
