Goodyear Vice President James Boyazis to RetireAKRON, Ohio - The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced today that James Boyazis, 63, vice president, secretary and associate general counsel, will retire July 31, after nearly 37 years of service. "For more than three decades, Jim's broad business perspective has been a major influence in our law department and among our senior management," said Samir G. Gibara, Goodyear's chairman, chief executive officer and president. A native of Warren, Ohio, Boyazis began his career with the company's former Goodyear Aerospace subsidiary in 1963 as a systems analyst. Three years later, he was transferred to the parent company's industrial engineering group and assigned to the start-up of the Goodyear tire plant in Greece. In 1971, he returned and was named manager of administration in the corporate secretary's office and, in 1977, became assistant to Chairman Charles J. Pilliod. Boyazis was named director of the secretary's office in 1979 and elected secretary and counsel of Goodyear Aerospace in 1982. He was elected to his present position in 1987. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Youngstown State University and a law degree from The University of Akron. In 1985, Boyazis completed the advanced management program at Harvard University. The responsibilities of the corporate secretary will be assumed by C. Thomas Harvie, who is currently senior vice president and general counsel. Goodyear is the world's largest tire company.
