ARCA: Trio of Truck triumphs for Troy
6 June 2000
Fort Wayne, IN, 6-3-00 - Troy Marciniak took advantage of a spin and a sputter to win the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series 50 lap main event Saturday night at Baer Field Speedway, his third consecutive ARCA Truck triumph after 4 events. "We were lucky tonight - in the right place at the right time," said Marciniak. "But being lucky is part of the deal in racing, and you have to be there to have the opportunity to be lucky, and we were certainly there all night long. I'd like to thank my Dad and the crew for all the support. We had a terrible year last year, broke a bunch of motors so to have it turn in the other direction means a lot to this team. I think at times we all were doubting ourselves last year, but not any more. This Marciniak Motorsports-A&A Manufacturing Chevy crew is pumped. It sure feels great to win. I'm happy for everyone who works this deal. We could get use to this." Second generation driver Bobby Marvin finished a close second in the Ed & Company-Stat Express Delivery Ford ahead of Joseph Wormcastle, Robbin Slaughter and Jeff Speakman the top-five. Marciniak, who had raced in the top-five for the duration, inherited the lead after late race leader Chad Guinn blew an engine with less than two laps to go. That was just after race leader Wormcastle spun resulting from a nudge by Slaughter. Wormcastle, who led most of the way, had constant pressure from Slaughter and was less than 2 laps from his career-first ARCA Truck win when the leaders encountered lapped traffic. While Wormcastle opted for the brake pedal, Slaughter was still working the throttle and contact was made. Wormcastle spun, and both machines were put to the tail-end of the lead-lap cars for the restart. Shortly after taking the green flag, Guinn, who won the Hoosier Tire Pole Award earlier with a new one-lap track record, blew the engine heading down the backstretch. Also involved in the melee were Jeff Speakman who spun in Guinn's oil and Bill Withers who cut down a tire. That set up another green-white-checker finish with Marciniak now at the helm. When racing resumed, Marciniak had a hard-charging Marvin in his mirror but denied the challenge and streaked across the final stripe with a 2 length advantage over the runner-up finisher. Wormcastle, who won the Cloyes Gear Halfway Leader Award, recovered nicely from his troubles and raced back for a top-five as did Slaughter who chased Wormcastle under the checkered flag with Speakman in tow. Tully Esterline stayed out of trouble and finished sixth and defending champ Withers finished seventh after pitting to replace a cut tire. Kyle Witwer won the Ed & Company Hard Charger Award for racing from 18th to eighth in the final running order while Michael Carter and Jack Weethee completed the top-10. Next event for the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will be Saturday, June 10th at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana, the first appearance for the ARCA Trucks at the half mile Indiana oval. 2000 ARCA LINCOLN WELDERS TRUCK SERIES EVENT #4 Baer Field Speedway, Fort Wayne IN Official Results, Baer Field 50 FIN STR CAR POS POS NO DRIVER/RESIDENCE TEAM & CAR LAPS STATUS 1 5 8 Troy Marciniak/Spring Lake MI Marciniak Motorsports-A&A Manufacturing Chevrolet 50 Running 2 11 76 Bobby Marvin/Columbus OH Ed & Company-Stat Express Delivery Ford 50 Running 3 2 16 Joseph Wormcastle/Fort Wayne IN Witwer Racing-Votaw Electric Chevrolet 50 Running 4 1 6 Robbin Slaughter/Columbus OH Carmen's Vacuum-Napa Auto Parts Ford 50 Running 5 8 2 Jeff Speakman/Piqua OH Pennzoil-Nat'l Auto Lube Ford 50 Running 6 6 10 Tully Esterline/Pettisville OH Spangler Candy Company Chevrolet 50 Running 7 3 57 Bill Withers/Columbus OH Mannings USA-Hall Electronics Ford 50 Running 8 18 18 Kyle Witwer/Fort Wayne IN Kelley Automotive Group-Witwer Racing Chevrolet 50 Running 9 16 44 Michael Carter Jr/Highland MI Carter Racing Chevrolet 50 Running 10 20 55 Jack Weethee/Grove City OH Weethee Builders-Amerihost Inns Ford 49 Running 11 13 5 Johnny Witham/Hamilton OH Pate Manufacturing-Fab Shop Ford 49 Running 12 15 17 Randy Kopka/Francesville IN Braun Auto Group-Braun Seating Ford 49 Running 13 14 77 Todd Braun/Winamac IN Braun Auto Group-Two Guy Mechanical Ford 49 Running 14 19 21 Bob Beringer/Toledo OH Mississippi BBQ Sauce-M&M Htng & AC Chevy 49 Running 15 4 4 Chad Guinn/Erie MI Sonic Expediting Ford 48 Running 16 12 12 Pete Wormcastle/Fort Wayne IN Witwer Racing-Votaw Electric Chevrolet 48 Running 17 21 9 Stan Maitlen/Greenville OH ARC Abrasives-GSI-Scoreboards-Meredith Heat Ford 46 Running 18 9 24 Paul Hahn/Canton MI Hahn's Collision-Eversole & Assoc-Fox Auto Ford 39 Carburetor 19 7 98 Dave Reeb/Pataskala OH Accurate Logistics Ford 37 Accident 20 10 3 John Kasmierski/Toledo OH Target Expediting Ford 12 Accident 21 17 96 John Toth/Northfield OH Perma Tech Sprayed On Bedliners Ford 1 Accident HOOSIER TIRE POLE AWARD: Chad Guinn 18.630 NTR HEAT WINNERS: NA LAP LEADERS: Wormcastle 1-48 (48); Marciniak 49-50 (2) SPECIAL AWARDS Revenge Pole-Win Award: NA Cloyes Gear Halfway Leader Award: Joseph Wormcastle Hawk Best Brake of the Race Award: Troy Marciniak Ed & Company Hard Charger Award: Kyle Witwer RJS Safety Belt Award: Bobby Marvin Brooks Racing Tire & Wheel Award: Bobby Marvin, Kyle Witwer Diamond Wheels Award: Johnny Witham King Wheels Award: Jack Weethee
