MOTORCYCLES: Honda XRs dominate Baja 500

6 June 2000

2000 SCORE Desert Series, Round 2: Baja 500, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico,
June 2-4, 2000

Honda XR650R-mounted racers dominated the 32nd annual SCORE / Tecate Baja 500,
unofficially sweeping the top five motorcycle positions overall, with Honda
Off-Road Team members Steve Hengeveld and Jonah Street edging Johnny Campbell
and Tim Staab for the second-closest finish in 500 history. For Street, it
marked his second consecutive win at the event. The winning pair completed the
441.6-mile course quicker than the trucks and buggies, truly qualifying them as
the overall winners.

Round 3 of the SCORE series will be the first-ever running of the Baja 2000.
The extended version of the legendary Baja 1000 will run from Ensenada to Cabo
San Lucas, Mexico on November 10-16.
