Tracks: Dwyer makes snap decision to visit victory lane at Lebanon Valley

4 June 2000

WEST LEBANON, NY- Tim Dwyer made his way to victory lane for the first time
ever in the 30-lap modified feature. K.C. Goewey picked up his second win of
the season in the sportsman division and Bob Duzlak was the winner of the
Street Stock feature. Chris Crews won the IMCA modified feature for the
second straight week. Snap-On Tools and Key Bank brought us this great racing
action.

Tim Dwyer used his front row starting position to his advantage and
pulled out to a quick lead. The caution flag only flew twice in the 30-lap
affair, the first of which came out on lap five for Dave Baranowski. J.R.
Heffner used the restart to move up to the third spot. Dwyer was motoring
away on the front as he had opened a half-straightaway lead by lap nine.
David Sanchez was coming of a career best third place Monday night. He would
not be as lucky tonight as he dropped out of the feature on lap 14.

Rich Ricci was one driver making a charge as he made the pass for fourth
on lap 15. Ricci would then begin to put the pressure on third place Heffner.
The caution flag came out for the second and final time on lap 17, as Dave
McFeeters slowed on the backstretch. Ricci got by Heffner on the next lap and
set his sights on the second place car of Guy Sheldon. Monday night's winner,
Chris Moore, cracked the top five on lap 18. Ricci started to put pressure on
Sheldon for second on lap 22.

Ronnie Johnson would retire from the event on lap 22 while running in the
top ten. Kenny Tremont seemed to struggle throughout the early part of the
feature and only got up to sixth by the end of the race. Dwyer was
unstoppable as he took the checkered flag a full straightaway ahead of the
second place car. Ricci was able to get around Sheldon on the final lap to
take second with Sheldon hanging on to third. Heffner came home fourth and
Moore rounded out the top five.

John Hotchkiss took command of the 20-lap sportsman feature at the drop
of the green flag. He held the top spot until K.C. Goewey made the pass for
the lead on lap five. George Marcus made his way up to third by lap four.
Lorne Browe moved up into the top five on lap seven. Marcus began to apply
heat to Hotchkiss for second by lap seven. The most serious incident of the
race came on lap eight when Paul Gilardi flipped on the backstretch,
fortunately the driver walked away from the wreck.

Frank Harper used the restart to vault from fourth up to second, he would
only hold that position for a lap as Marcus scooted by the next lap. Hawley
Smith and Bobby Knipe both moved into the top five on lap eleven. Last week's
winner, Art Collins, came from deep in the pack to run seventh by lap 12, he
would eventually finish in the sixth position.

Some great racing near the three-quarter mark of the feature between
Sparky Lowe and Knipe as the two traded the fifth spot several times. Knipe
would hold the advantage at the end of the race. Meanwhile, Goewey and Marcus
had pulled away by almost a full straightaway over third place by lap 18.
Marcus tried to mount a charge but could not as Goewey took home the
checkered flag. A strong finish for Harper in third with Smith fourth and
Knipe fifth.

Al Blackburn led the first seven laps of the 20-lap street stock feature.
He lost the lead to Bobby Duzlak on lap seven and Duzlak quickly motored
away. A caution for the spun car of Tom Brandt allowed Blackburn to get back
on Duzlak's bumper. Duzlak was able to open up a couple car length lead on
the restart. Danny Sanchez had worked his way up to third by the halfway
point of the event. While Duzlak checked out on the front there was some good
racing between Sanchez, Jim Lagenback and Mike Halachick for positions three
through five

The most serious incident of the race came on lap 13 when Ricky Duzlak
lost a wheel in turn one. The point leader going into the race, Todd
Goldstein, hopped over the loose wheel and went completely airborne.
Goldstein's car did not appear to be hurt by the mid-air adventure and he
finished seventh. Steve Brownell had a strong top ten run go away on lap 16
with a left rear flat tire. Halachick spun on lap 15 ended his chances of a
top five finish. No one could mount a serious challenge to Duzlak and he was
able to capture the victory. He was followed across the line by Al Blackburn,
Sanchez, Langenback and Scott Govertsen.

Bill Hughes, Don Coons and Tom Sanchez Jr were all victorious in their
respective pure stock features.

The racing action will be back next Saturday night as Pro Circuit
Autosports and Restoration and Wohrles Meat Market bring us the racing
program. The modified, sportsman, IMCA modifieds, street and pure stocks will
all be in action. Also on hand will be the 358 modifieds.
