NHRA FMDRS: Rain still a factor at Hallsville, TX

HALLSVILLE, Texas - With racing postponed two weeks from its original
weekend of May 19 - 21 because of rain, the wet stuff is again wreaking
havoc at Hallsville Raceway at the rescheduled NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag
Racing Series event.

With rain storms and showers sweeping across Central and Eastern Texas
Saturday afternoon racing currently is on hold at Hallsville as officials
attempt to dry the track.  Two storms hit the track beginning at 1:30 p.m.
EST; four hours later track-drying efforts are about halfway complete.
In Competition Eliminator Greg Williams snatched the provisional No. 1
qualifying position from early pacesetter Buddy Nickens with a 0.561-second
under Index lap of 8.239 seconds.  Nickens also improved n his Friday
qualifying effort, running a 0.530-second under Index pass of 8.090
seconds.

Brent Johnson held on to the Super Stock pole with his Friday lap of 11.305
seconds, 1.145-seconds under Index.  In Stock late arrival Billy Lynn
jumped to the No. 1 position with a 1.354-second under Index lap of 11.596
seconds.

One pair of Federal-Mogul Funny Cars was run before the rain hit the track.
 Former drag boat racer Richard Shaver hit a 6.144-second lap to trail
behind Tate Branch and Todd Simpson, the No. 1 and No. 2 qualifiers,
respectively, with identical Friday runs of 6.140 seconds.
