Tony Kanaan and the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard
will start from the inside of the sixth row in Sunday’s Miller Lite
225.  He recorded a fast qualifying lap of 21.168 seconds (an average of
175.510 mph) over the legendary Milwaukee Mile oval, just 25-hundredths
of a second off the time set by polesitter Juan Montoya but good enough
for only the 11th spot on the grid.  Montoya bested the field at 20.899
seconds (177.769 mph) to take his third pole of the season.

The green flag falls at 3 p.m. local time (4 p.m. EDT) Sunday with a
live broadcast set for ABC-TV.

“We had a little bit too much understeer in the qualifying run, a
problem we’ve been fighting all weekend.  I had it on my fast lap, and
it got worse on my second qualifying lap.  It’s a very tight grid.  So,
all things considered, we have to be satisfied with a top-12 qualifying
position.  That’s a good spot for us this weekend.  As is always the
case here, we’ll have to stay on the lead lap and have a good race car
in traffic.  Even though the track is wide and fairly smooth, it’s going
to be tough to pass here.  The new (mile oval) wing (configuration) is
good when you’re running alone, but it makes it tough in traffic.  We
didn’t test here, as I’ve said, but Morris and the team have given me a
very competitive race car.  The teams that tested here (two weeks ago)
have had an easier time adjusting to the changing track conditions.
While we had a good car right off the truck, it’s been more of a gamble
for us as we tried to move forward.  But that’s the price you pay when
you’re a one-car team, and a brand new team.”
