SCCA: Start Order & Late Breaking News: SCCA ProRally Championship - Susquehannock Trail
2 June 2000
Eighty cars are entered in the 24th running of the Susquehannock Trail SCCA ProRally Championship event. All four Championship manufacturers (Hyundai, Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi) are represented, featuring the hugely successful Hyundai Tiburons, 8 Mitsubishi Lancers, and the debut of several new Subaru Imprezas, in both FIA Group N and SCCA specification Open categories. The one-day event will be held on National Forest roads in the area south and west of Wellsboro. The Rally starts tomorrow morning, Saturday 03 June at 10:31 AM EST. Selected late entries, news (driver/co-driver): · 1999 Production Class Driver Champion Karl Scheible & co-driver Russ Hughes; FIA Group N Class 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V - Karl, recovering from his DNF at April's Oregon Trail event, with a convincing win at May's Rim of the World, and arrives here in the lead of the Overall Driver's Championship, a mere 2 points ahead of 7-time Champion Paul Choinere. · 1999 Group 5 Champions Henry and Cindi Krolikowski will be making their 2000 ProRally debut at STPR, in their ProDrive Subaru WRX-Sti. The couple took the new Subaru for its first shakedown cruise at the SCCA Headwaters ClubRally event in Minnesota two weeks ago, and were pleased with the results, finishing 3rd overall. · Also making its debut this weekend is another Group N FIA car, that doesn't fit the expected mold of Mitsubishi Lancers and Subaru WRX's - Padraig Purcell, a popular east coast driver, brought a Vauxhall Astra Gsi from his home country of Ireland, the first time a rally Vauxhall has been seen in this country in decades. A proven car, Purcell's Astra may be the wild-card of the event. · The popular front running Canadian rallyists Frank and Dan Sprongl withdrew their entry at the last minute, due to insurmountable engine problems with their Audi, encountered at a Canadian rally event in May. · The torrential late spring rains that much of central and eastern portions of the USA have been receiving over then past week are playing havoc not only with many teams travel to the rally, but with team event strategies as well. While certain stages will no doubt be dusty, giving advantage to the overall leader, others are expected to be slick or at least dust free, keeping the rest of the pack in the hunt. Car # = number on vehicle. Car # under 200 are ProRally entries. Car # over 200 are generally ClubRally (regional) entrants. Class = Open, FIA A & N - fastest; are cars with considerable modifications; P (Production) - slowest; are cars very near to showroom stock configuration. G5 - two wheel drive high HP cars; G2 - two wheel drive lower horsepower cars; PGT - high horsepower production (stock) cars.
