New Beetle Cup 2000 Now Online at VW.Com
    MONTREAL, June 1 /CNW/ - Volkswagen's New Beetle Cup 2000 website is now
online as of today. The first North American edition of the Cup will be held
in Montreal during the Air Canada Grand Prix from June 16 to 18. The new
micro-site is accessible directly from the main VW website at http://www.vw.com. It
uses an interactive mosaic that allows visitors to surf through a uniquely
enjoyable multimedia experience, complete with a techno-music sound that
reflects the Volkswagen personality.
    The site's content will continue to change over the weeks ahead. Visitors
will able to find not only the details on the event, driver names and
technical specs for the New Beetle racecars, but also be able to take a
virtual tour of Montreal the Volkswagen way, highlighting some of the Beetle
fans' favorite urban, cool and after hours locations. The site is right on the
money as VW users are some of the web-friendliest drivers in the automobile
industry. (According to a fall 1998 study by J.D. Power autoshopper.com, 98%
of  Volkswagen owners are on the net.)

    A DYNAMIC INTERACTIVE SITE
    Visitors who enter http://www.vw.com and click on the New Beetle racecar image
are instantly propelled into the world of the New Beetle 2000 Cup with a
techno music score written by Montreal's DJ Elsonic. While the intro and
interface load, a dynamic interaction takes place. This is followed by a
series of linked images and plans of the racing car. Next on the screen is the
navigation interface, a checkerboard mosaic of 12 gray and white squares
showing an iconography identified with automobile racing. Every visit is
unique, depending on which square you select. So is the music. The various
components in the ever-present techno music sound recombine as you go from one
window to another.
    The New Beetle 2000 Cup website is bilingual and uses Flash technology.
Visitors will eventually be able to download a New Beetle racing `skin` which
they can use to personalize their browser.
