Tower Semiconductor Receives QS-9000 Quality Certification
MIGDAL HAEMEK, Israel--May 31, 2000--Tower Semiconductor Ltd. announced it has completed QS-9000 quality certification with The Standards Institution of Israel (SII). QS-9000 is an automotive industry standard that expands on ISO 9000. This system is globally accepted as proof of quality in the automotive industry and its supply chain."Device and system suppliers to the American automotive industry are now expected to comply with the QS-9000 standard," said Doron Simon, director of U.S.A. sales for Tower. "They expect such compliance from their semiconductor wafer manufacturers as well. Achieving this certificate pre-qualifies Tower as a quality supplier for the automotive segment of the semiconductor industry, as well as for other markets that demand strict quality control."
The certificate states that the Quality Management System of Tower Semiconductor Ltd. has been audited by SII and found to comply with the Quality Management Standard: ISO 9002, and with the Quality System Requirements QS-9000 third edition.
"Tower's quality system structure has been compliant with the ISO 9002 standard since 1995," said Nadav Arbel, director of customer support, QA and reliability. "Having the procedures and methods already in place allowed us to focus our efforts on implementing the additional practices of QS-9000 into of the organizational quality culture."
QS -9000 is the name given to the Quality System Requirements of the automotive industry which were developed by Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and major truck manufacturers and issued in late 1994 based on ISO 9001. It aims for continuous improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste along the supply chain by establishing methodical control procedures in all the operation functions of the organization.
