Mitsubishi Exports its 'Up-Market' SUV into India

30 May 2000

Affluent Indian Consumers Get First Crack at Pajeros SUV

India - Buyers who meet India's "quantitative restrictions"
requirements, and who are willing to spend the equivalent of $56,495-70,055(US)
for the Pajeros 2.8-liter diesel GLX and GLS versions, respectively, will now
be able to do so beginning in July.

Hindustan Motors will import the SUVs and has recently sent nearly a dozen
service technicians to Mitsubishi's training center in Japan to in order to
become familiar with the vehicle and its service requirements. Right hand drive
Pajeros will be sold in several select cities before going nationwide.

India will be relaxing its import restrictions in April 2001. This will
allow anyone (with the price of 'admission') to also purchase one of Mitsubishi's
prized Pajeros. In India, the Pajeros enjoys a very high profile image, similar
to that of a Mercedes-Benz or BMW.
