2000 Louis Schwitzer Award Recognizes G-Force Chassis Development

    INDIANAPOLIS--May 26, 2000--The 34th Louis Schwitzer Award has been awarded to Paul Burgess, chief designer for the Indy Racing G-Force GF05 chassis.
    The annual award is granted by engineers to engineers, who are selected for innovative engineering excellence in design and development.
    The award is presented by BorgWarner, sponsor of the BorgWarner Indianapolis 500 trophy. BorgWarner enjoys a long-standing tradition of engineering excellence and product leadership, and the company sponsors this award to highlight its appreciation of superior design and implementation. BorgWarner is proud to honor the racing tradition of Louis Schwitzer by providing the cash prize of $5,000 for the winner of the 2000 award.
    The G-Force GF05 chassis, new this racing season, offers increased safety and performance enhancements. The design improved the aerodynamic performance of the car by reducing drag and increasing downforce.
    Paul Burgess heads the seven-member G-Force GF05 design staff. Originally from Kenley, Surrey, England, he has been with G-Force since 1996. His prior experience includes work with Tyrrell Formula 1, Lotus Formula 1, as well as other Formula 1, F3000 and sports car racing organizations. In addition to the Indy Racing chassis, G-Force manufactures cars for the Japanese F3000 series and has worked on Panoz sports cars and the Nissan LeMans car.
    The Louis Schwitzer Award, named after the dynamic automotive pioneer Louis Schwitzer, has been presented annually since 1967 by the Indiana Section, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
