Pep Boys and Safelite AutoGlass Announce Nationwide Alliance; Increased Customer Convenience for Glass Repair and Replacement
PHILADELPHIA--May 25, 2000--Pep Boys has announced a nationwide business alliance with Safelite AutoGlass which enables Pep Boys to expand its service offering by providing automotive glass repair and replacement service.Under the terms of the cross-licensing agreement, Pep Boys and Safelite will promote co-branded automobile glass replacement and repair services on a national basis.
"With this alliance, customers may have the work done at a conveniently-located Pep Boys Supercenter or have the work done at a location of their own choosing, such as the office or at home, through Safelite's fleet of 3,200 mobile vans," says Mark Page, Senior Vice President of Store Operations.
Motorists with damaged glass can have their vehicles examined by a service technician to determine the extent of repair needed, including full replacement, if necessary. In some cases, the repair may be able to be made while the customer waits. If more extensive work is needed, customers can schedule a convenient time with a Safelite AutoGlass technician directly from the Pep Boys store, using a toll-free phone number.
Once the work is done, Safelite will handle all of the insurance paperwork, if appropriate.
"Many insurance companies will waive the deductible for glass repair, provided that the owner carries comprehensive coverage on their vehicle," Page points out.
"Safelite's repair specialists can repair windshield cracks up to 6" long," said John Barlow, President and CEO of Safelite. "Of course, if the windshield cannot be repaired, our National Glass Association-certified technicians will be able to replace the windshield at the customers' convenience. Pep Boys' customers can feel confident with their Safelite service at Pep Boys, because Safelite offers a nationwide warranty on all parts and labor, good as long as the customer owns their vehicle."
Pep Boys will also serve as a preferred provider of fleet maintenance and repair services for Safelite's vehicle fleet. As one of the nation's largest service providers for commercial fleets, Pep Boys will further leverage its non-franchised network of over 6,900 service bays across the country.
