Delphi Names Schumacher to Lead Aggressive Growth of Mobile Multimedia DELPHI AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS DELPHI AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS Robert W. Schumacher Director of Delphi Automotive Systems Mobile MultiMedia Business Line.
TROY, Mich., May 25 Dr. Robert W. Schumacher has been
appointed director of Delphi Automotive Systems Mobile MultiMedia
(MMM) business line.

The appointment, announced today by Dave Wohleen, Delphi executive vice
president and president of the Electronics & Mobile Communications sector, is
effective immediately. Schumacher will report to Wohleen in his new capacity.
"Bob has done an excellent job of launching the Mobile MultiMedia Business
Group and will continue to lead it in its role as a separate business line and
the first example of Delphi's new aggressive growth business model," Wohleen
said.
In March, Delphi designated the Mobile MultiMedia business line as the
first example of the company's new aggressive growth business model. The new
model is one of the company's strategic initiatives to leverage its
significant technologies and capabilities by allowing greater autonomy to
rapidly grow business lines. The business model is designed to provide nimble
decision making for fast-paced expansion of the products and services in those
businesses. In addition, the financial performance of the business will be
broken out separately to track its growth.
In less than 21 months, the MMM business has booked nearly $2.9 billion in
new business, exceeding Delphi's expectations. The MMM market is expected to
grow at a 30 percent compound annual rate over the next five years. In 1999,
MMM revenues totaled $40 million and in year 2000, sales are projected to be
$200 million.
    From 1973 to 1979, Schumacher received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in
physics from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
He joined Hughes Research Laboratories (HRL) in 1983. In 1991, he assumed
responsibility for HRL Automotive R&D before being appointed director of the
Delco Electronics Automotive Electronics Development (AED) Group. He was
named director of the Delco Electronics Advanced Technology Center in 1995 and
was appointed director of Advanced Engineering in 1997. Schumacher has served
as product line executive for the MMM emerging business group at Delphi Delco
Electronics Systems division since its formation in 1998.
The Mobile MultiMedia business line offers specialized products that bring
new communications, information and entertainment features to vehicles. Under
the Communiport(R) brand, the business offers smart radios, telematics and
rear seat entertainment systems. These products bring a variety of features
and functions into the vehicle including: navigation, Internet services, e-
mail, integrated cell phone, DVD, voice activation and audio/video.
Delphi integrates these products into vehicle systems, taking advantage of
decades of expertise in antennas and reception systems, audio, vehicle
acoustics, displays, embedded processors, communication and user interface
design.
