Sirius Satellite Radio: David Margolese, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Telecomm Analyst News

NEW YORK--May 24, 2000--If you've ever found yourself frustrated with radio programming while in your car, then you may be in luck.
In the next few months, Sirius Satellite Radio is launching three satellites that will directly broadcast 100 radio stations to specially equipped cars everywhere in the United States. Automotive partners include Ford Motor , Daimlerchrysler , BMW (BMW), Mazda Motor (MZDAF); Volvo (VOLVO) and Jaguar.
"We think of ourselves like satellite television -- DirecTV and Echostar Communications , but we think we're like those companies if they had been launched back in the early 1970s with no cable competition...XM Satellite Radio Holdings is our only competitor. The two of us are a licensed duopoly by the Federal Communications Commission...The manufacturer of our satellites is our partner Loral Space & Communications ," said Margolese.
When asked if the receivers would be available in electronics stores by the end of this year, Margolese answered: "Not by this Christmas. It will probably be mid-2001 before you will be able to get a receiver at RadioShack, Circuit City Stores or Best Buy ."
