Pickups Plus Gears Up for Strong Sales Season
MASON, Ohio--May 24, 2000--Memorial Day Weekend is the traditional start of summer - a season of fun, travel and strong sales for Pickups Plus, Inc. (OTCBB:PUPS), a national franchiser and retailer of truck and SUV accessories.
"Spring and summer - from March through July - typically are the highest volume sales months for Pickups Plus," said Sean Fitzgerald, vice president of marketing. "To meet the demand from increased store traffic and sales, Pickups Plus intends to boost summer employment by 20 percent," Fitzgerald said.
"Summer is a great time for outdoorsmen and for families," said Fitzgerald. "People are on the road more - going camping, taking vacations and pulling their boats. Pickups Plus will be ready to help drivers make the most of the season while protecting their vehicle investment."
Pickups Plus stores carry a full line of aftermarket accessories, including both standard and specialty items, and also deliver expert advice and professional installation.
Fitzgerald said bug shields - particularly the Lund Interceptor -- are the most popular accessory sold during spring and summer. Bug shields are designed to protect hoods, fenders and windshields from bug splatters, and also from rocks and pebbles. Other big-sellers this time of year include tonno covers for truck beds, truck caps, vent visors to deflect rain from open windows and hitches for trailers, Fitzgerald said.
"Pickups Plus stocks a wide variety of accessories for every make, model and budget," he said. "We're a pro shop for drivers of pickups and sport utility vehicles. Visitors to our store and our Web site know they'll find what they're looking for - at the right price."
Trucks and SUVs are among the most popular vehicles on the road; light trucks comprise 50 percent of all U.S. automotive sales. And accessorizing those vehicles, for many owners, is a passion.
"Ninety-four percent of all trucks have some sort of aftermarket accessory on them," Fitzgerald said. "The average truck owner spends $1,400 to $2,000 on accessories within the first 30 days of owning the vehicle.
We're in the right business at the right time."
Pickups Plus has 11 stores nationwide. Already a market leader in the $30 billion a year truck and SUV accessory market, Pickups Plus plans to expand to six new markets around the country in the coming year and recently announced an aggressive acquisition campaign.
