Johnson Controls Earns General Motors Supplier of the Year AwardLeading producer of vehicle interior systems honored by automaker with prestigious award PLYMOUTH, Mich., May 22 Johnson Controls - a leading global manufacturer of automotive interiors - has been named a 1999 Supplier of the Year by General Motors Corp. This is the fifth consecutive time the company has been honored with the award. The prestigious international award -- which was presented last week at the historic PrinzRegenten Theater in Munich, Germany -- is given annually to GM's best global suppliers in recognition of their supplier performance during the previous calendar year. Kutner, group vice president, Worldwide Purchasing and North American Production Control & Logistics for General Motors, who hosted the event. "It is an honor to have them working with us. The GM Supplier of the Year award began as a global program in 1992. A diverse team of executives from purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and logistics selected the award winners based on their evaluations of supplier performance in quality, service, technology and price. This year, General Motors honored 181 suppliers from 22 countries for their excellence throughout 1999. The automotive business of Johnson Controls -- which employs more than 65,000 people at 275 facilities worldwide -- achieved US$12.1 billion in sales for the 1999 fiscal year.
