Automakers Support Proposed Sulfur Reductions in Diesel Fuels By TOSCOWASHINGTON, May 22 Statement by Gregory J. Dana, Vice President, Environmental Affairs, Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, in response to TOSCO Corporation's announcement that it supports reductions in sulfur for on-road diesel fuel: "The Alliance applauds the statement made by Tosco Corporation in support of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposal for limiting sulfur levels in diesel fuel to 15 ppm. "This refutes statements made by petroleum refiners and oil companies that these standards cannot be achieved in the time frame of EPA's proposal. "Clean diesel fuel is imperative for manufacturers to be able to design advanced emission control technology that will allow light-duty diesel vehicles to meet the stringent Tier 2 emission standards. Sulfur contaminates these devices and does not allow their use on diesel engines."
