Detroit Diesel to Supply Diesel Engines to Ford Motor Company
DETROIT, May 22 Detroit Diesel Corporation
(http://www.detroitdiesel.com ) announced it has reached agreement with Ford Motor
Company to supply 2.5L, 16-valve diesel engines for a Ford vehicle
sold outside the United States. DDC will begin to supply 2.5L direct
injected, common rail engines to Ford in calendar year 2001. Details will be
available later this year after the agreement is finalized.
Already the world's leading independent supplier of high performance
automotive diesel engines, Detroit Diesel's current automotive line is
available in a number of configurations from three to six cylinders. The
four-cylinder, direct injected, 2.5L diesel engine is equipped with
electronically controlled common rail fuel injection which provides
significantly improved control of the fuel injection process over the entire
operating range of the engine. All models are turbocharged and intercooled
with features such as Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and balance shafts for
reduced vibration. The result is a high speed, direct injection engine,
designed to be the world leader in performance, fuel economy and reduced
emissions. Many of the 2.5L applications meet today's emissions regulations
without aftertreatment.
"We are pleased to be working with Ford on this project. This program was
brought from first consideration to demonstration and approval by working very
closely in an integrated team atmosphere. Our 2.5L Detroit Diesel automotive
engine matches well with Ford's application requirements and we are providing
Ford application development support to further enhance the integration of our
engine with Ford's world class product. This new agreement underscores our
commitment to the automotive market and our ability to work closely with
vehicle manufacturers to develop comprehensive, world-class automotive
solutions," said Chip McClure, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Detroit Diesel.
