CASCAR - Turner wins CASCAR opener

LONDON, ON - Al Turner came from the 34th starting position to win the
Mopar Parts 250 at Delaware Speedway Park on Sunday afternoon. The Barrie,
ON racer overcame problems, which plagued him during Saturday evening's
qualifying procedures, to claim the first round of the CASCAR Castrol Super
Series.
	Driving the Blue Streak Intrepid, Turner ran a steady pace - protecting
his brakes and picking off competitors - until he took the lead with a bold
pass on Edmonton, AB racer, Kevin Dowler, on lap 223 of the 250 lap race at
the London, ON area half-mile oval.

	The race win was especially sweet for Turner, who came close to winning a
several occasions last summer with his newly-formed team, only to be denied
each time. The win was also the first for the Intrepid bodystyle, in its
inaugural outing in the CASCAR Super Series.

	Finishing second to Turner was Hamilton, ON racer Don Thomson; last year's
Super Series East champion. Thomson's Home Hardware Chevrolet was one of
the fastest cars all day, but late-race contact with another car - as he
was attempting to pass Turner - effectively ended Thomson's chances for
victory.
	Another Hamilton resident, Jim Lapcevich, took the third spot on the
podium. Lapcevich - a CASCAR veteran - grabbed third in his first race
since switching to the Chevrolet Monte Carlo during the off-season. Ford
drivers Dowler and Dave Jacombs - who sat on the pole for the first time in
his CASCAR career - completed the top five finishers.

Next event: The CASCAR Castrol Super Series East resumes June 4 at Cayuga
Speedway, which is located south of Hamilton, ON, with the Ford Quality
Care 250.
