In the inaugural Food 4 Less Fast 4 Shootout Walker won a cool one thousand dollars (delivered to him in victory lane in a shopping bag full stuffed with 1000 one-dollar bills) for four frantic laps of dash driving. In the main, the eighteen year old from North Hills, led every lap as he took the lead from his second row starting spot and never looked back for 75 laps. Had he looked back he would have seen the same four cars behind him for nearly all of the race. 5440 fans watched Walker, Bakersfield's Dan Holtz, and Brandon Loverock from Santa Fe Springs. By lap 14 Walker was already leading the above mentioned "train" through lapped traffic. At lap 32 Holtz's motor seemed to flatten out and he was quickly passed by Lovesick, with the 1999 divisional champion Rod Johnson moving up into third. Walker looked almost invincible in the lead as he smoothly lapped the track that he fondly refers to as his favorite. David Gilliland (Chino Hills) finished a very creditable fourth with Lancaster's Shawn Brink fifth. Greg Voigt of Goleta came back from a nasty metal-bender midway through the race to capture seventh place and retain his lead in the division's tight points chase. Walker took the track's first-ever "Polish Victory Lap" making a clockwise charge around the track after all the other competitors had cleared off. At the press conference he indicted to the media that he took the backwards lap as a tribute to the late Adam Petty. There is a high level of competitiveness in the Food 4 Less Super Late Model Division where thirty cars started the main with the first 28 cars covered by a just under second and a half in their lap speeds. In other events, Darren Young of Gilbert, Arizona won the Mechanix Wear Speed Truck race. Riverside's Bob Reed triumphed in the NASCAR Mini-Stock event.. Jon Zernikow from Monrovia was first to the finish line in the Legends Cars. And Rip Michels of Mission Hills was the victor in the NASCAR Grand American Modifieds.
