SCCA: Stilwell wins round three of Pro Spec Racer schedule at Mosport

21 May 2000

BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Can. (May 20, 2000) - Warren Stilwell, of Hartville, Ohio, captured Round Three of the Pro Spec Racer race at Mosport International Raceway. Keith Scharf, of St. Louis, Mo. and John Black, of Tahoe City, Calif. rounded out the top three.

Stilwell, driving the No. 28 Stilwell Racing Spec Racer, once again showed his dominance of Mosport, leading flag-to-flag to the win. Stilwell was never really challenged and ran away as the race progressed to a comfortable 6.071-seconds margin of victory.

"I was fortunate enough to get away from everyone and run my own race,” said Stilwell, whose won four of the six races run here. “The car started to get a little loose late in the race but I managed to hold on.”

Driving the No. 82 Hunt Racing Spec Racer, Scharf stayed close to Stilwell at the start, but was unable to match his pace as the race progressed, settling for second place.

“I was surprised to finish second to be honest,” said Scharf. “I knew I had to stay close to Stilwell at the start if I had any chance. As the race wore on the tires just went away and I concentrated on finishing second.”

Black, driving the No. 17 Ascent Racing Spec Racer, drove a strong race to capture his first-ever podium. Black, started sixth and was involved in a great group battle the majority of the race. Late in the 20-lap race Black moved into third and held of a determined challenge from Neil Tilbor.

“I didn’t think I’d move up from my starting position,” said Black. “I had a great battle all race long and somehow managed to land on the podium.”
