NASCAR Star Rusty Wallace Will Trade Pavement For Water at the Rusty Wallace "Splash for Kids" Charity Ride
CHARLOTTE, N.C.--May 19, 2000--This summer will give new meaning to skimming across the waves. On July 15, scores of NASCAR fans will have the opportunity of a lifetime -- to ride Rusty Wallace's wake at the Rusty Wallace "Splash for Kids," a Polaris personal watercraft charity ride on Lake Norman in Charlotte, N.C. Additional NASCAR celebrities also will take part in the ride, which will raise money for Speedway Children's Charities."Speedway Children's Charities is a charity I continually support," said Wallace. "I think it's great that Polaris has decided to organize this charity ride. We're looking forward to getting a lot of people out on the lake, having a lot of fun and raising a lot of money."
The ride will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., July 15. A gathering will take place after the ride featuring a meet and greet session with NASCAR racing celebrities and a NASCAR memorabilia auction.
Registration for the charity ride is $250. Participants have the option of collecting donations from sponsors toward the registration fee or sending a personal check for the total amount.
Registered participants will receive a Polaris duffel bag with a T-shirt and other event momentos. Participants are required to bring their own personal watercraft to the charity ride.
During the charity ride, Wallace will drive a Polaris Genesis custom-painted to look like his No. 2 Winston Cup Ford. He will autograph the personal watercraft for a drawing to be held July 31, 2000.
"When I'm not racing, I love to get out on Lake Norman with my Polaris Genesis and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life," said Wallace. "It's awesome to be by myself for a while and get a little `Rusty time'."
Visit a Polaris dealership to register and to enter the drawing to win Rusty's custom-painted, autographed Polaris Genesis. "Splash for Kids" registration is not necessary to enter the drawing.
All proceeds from the ride will benefit Speedway Children's Charities, a nonprofit foundation that distributes funds to charities providing emotional support, medical and social services to children in need.
"We are excited to offer NASCAR and personal watercraft fans the opportunity to ride with a well-known driver like Rusty Wallace," said Deb deLambert, personal watercraft marketing manager of Polaris Industries. "It's a great way for people to have fun while raising money to help children."
