American Standard Appoints Lawrence Costello Senior Vice President of Human Resources
    PISCATAWAY, N.J., May 18 American Standard Companies Inc.
today announced that Lawrence Costello has been appointed Senior
Vice President of Human Resources, effective June 1.
    Mr. Costello, 52, joins American Standard from Campbell Soup Company where
he was responsible for the company's human resources management worldwide as
the Corporate Vice President for Global Human Resources.  Previously, he
worked for Pepsico Inc. where he held the positions of Vice President -
Personnel for Pepsico Foods International and Vice President - Personnel for
Frito Lay, Inc. during his 12-year career.

Poses, American Standard Chairman and CEO.  "Employee and organizational

knowledge and experience to help us build a great company.  His proven human
resources leadership and extensive experience with leading consumer products

    Mr. Costello earned a Bachelor of Science degree in administration from
New Jersey-based Rider College in 1971. He received a degree in Management
from Harvard University in 1983.
    American Standard is a global producer of a broad range of products and
support services for the building products and commercial vehicle industries.
Those products include Trane(R) heating and air conditioning systems; American
Standard(R) and Ideal Standard(R) kitchen and bathroom products; and WABCO(R)
vehicle braking and control systems.
