HR Textron Receives Award for Excellence in Design

SANTA CLARITA, Calif.--May 18, 2000--HR Textron received the Design News "Excellence in Design Award" for its Model 27N Rotary Direct Drive Servovalve.
The award was presented at the annual Design News black-tie Engineering Awards Banquet, March 14, 2000, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Chicago.
According to Design News editors, "HR Textron's engineering team showed brilliant engineering insight in its designs and in the way it approached its technical challenges."
The HR Textron valve combines low cost with an operating frequency of 90 Hz, compared with 20-30 Hz for comparably priced designs. As a result, closed-loop servo-pneumatic control is now a much more viable choice in applications ranging from automotive vehicle component testing to semiconductor manufacturing.
Two unique ideas make the valve possible. First, a flexible circuit at the top of the valve connects a stationary electronic- control circuit to the moving rotor of a low-cost brush-type dc motor. A second unique linkage, at the bottom of the valve, converts motor shaft rotation to a linear motion that has the force needed to actuate the valve spool.
