Tracks: La Rochelle, Mottoshiski, Kilmer and Highes win on rainy night at Lebanon Valley

14 May 2000

WEST LEBANON, N.Y.- It looked like the weather was going to hold off long
enough Saturday night to get the whole program run. Unfortunately the rain
hit on lap nine of the 20-lap street stock feature and washed out the
remainder of the program. Racing will resume next week with the last eleven
laps of the street stock feature along with a full 20-lap feature. The
modifieds and sportsman division will run double features. Paul LaRochelle
was able to take home the IMCA modified feature before the rains came. This
was the second week in a row that LaRochelle won the IMCA modifieds. Pure
Stock winners were Bill Hughes, Scott Kilmer and Joe Mottoshiski. Pete
Defigilio won the Rookie main.

Bobby Blackburn took the lead at the start of the 20-lap street stock
feature. Todd Goldstein was making a charge early taking over third on lap
two. The first yellow came on lap four when Al Blackburn smacked the
frontstretch wall. The car sustained heavy damage but the driver was okay.
Goldstein took advantage of the restart to take over the second position. Jim
Lagenback saw his hood fly off on the lap five, bringing out the second
caution of the race. Rob Yetman tagged the frontstretch wall in the same
place that Al Blackburn had hit earlier.

The race for first was just starting on lap eight as Goldstein began to apply
pressure on Bobby Blackburn. There must have been a magnet on the
frontstretch wall Saturday night because two more cars hit it on lap nine.
Nick Rogers and Tom Bortle both hit the wall in tandem, knocking the jersey
barrier onto its side. While under caution to clean up the mayhem the rains
began to fall a speedway officials were forced to cancel the remainder of the
program.

Make plans now to attend this full night of great racing action at Lebanon
Valley. Don't forget time is running out to get your tickets for the Pennzoil
World of Outlaws. Call the speedway at (518) 794-9606 to order your tickets.
Lebanon Valley Speedway is located 20 minutes east of Albany, NY on U.S. Rt.
20 in West Lebanon, NY.
