BP Amoco Confirms Support for California Fuel Cell Partnership

12 May 2000

LOS ANGELES, May 12 BP Amoco p.l.c. today confirmed its continuing support
for the California Fuel Cell Partnership, following the combination of
Partnership member ARCO with BP Amoco.

ARCO was an original member of the California Fuel Cell Partnership, which
officially began in April 1999. The Partnership is dedicated to the
demonstration of fuel cell vehicles and the fuel infrastructure needed to
support them. A headquarters facility is to be constructed in the Sacramento
area, which will serve as an operations base for fuel cell vehicles beginning
later this year.

The Partnership includes auto manufacturers (DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Honda,
Nissan and Volkswagen); energy providers (the former ARCO, now BP Amoco,
Shell, and Texaco); a fuel cell company (Ballard Power Systems); and
government agencies (the California Air Resources Board, the California Energy
Commission, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the South Coast AQMD).

BP Amoco and ARCO merged operations effective April 18, 2000.

BP Amoco is an active supporter of hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle
technology with representation and participation in both the National Hydrogen
Association in the USA and the CEFIC Hydrogen Group in Europe. BP Amoco is
also an active participant in the General Motors fuel cell vehicle development
program.

BP Amoco's solar energy business, BP Solarex, is a world leader in solar
photovoltaic technology -- a technology which may one day allow the
cost-effective manufacture of hydrogen fuel from renewable solar energy and
water.

BP Amoco brings to the Partnership a history of development and
introduction of cleaner fuels and experience with the supply of alternative
fuels, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG).
This expertise will complement and build upon the already strong support to
the Partnership provided by ARCO.
