TRACKS: Modifieds will draw for starting positions at Lebanon Valley WoO show
11 May 2000
MODIFIEDS WILL DRAW FOR STARTING POSITIONS AT LEBANON VALLEY WORLD OF OUTLAWS SHOW WEST LEBANON, NY -- Each year when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws presented by CARQUEST Auto Parts wheel their way into Lebanon Valley Speedway the big-block modifieds are also on hand to provide the fans with some great high flying action. Along with the regular Lebanon Valley modified pilots there are also a number of outsiders that show up to take a shot at victory lane. The qualifying procedure for the modified portion of this year's World of Outlaws show will be a little different than in past years. Usually it is a regular point race and the handicapping is done using the money won from the last three races with any outsiders starting in the rear of the heats. At last years Budweiser, Mr. DIRT Track USA race each driver drew for their starting position and were awarded 30 appearance points after taking the green in the heat race. This format seemed to work well and we have decided to try it for the World of Outlaw show. All modified drivers will draw for heat race starting positions. Car count will determine the number of heats and how many to qualify from each. Each driver taking the green flag in a heat race will receive 30 Lebanon Valley appearance points. The results of this race will not be used for handicapping purposes for upcoming races. We anticipate having three heats with seven cars to qualify from each. The top five qualifiers from each heat race will redraw for starting positions in the modified feature. Any driver who has won a modified feature at Lebanon Valley Speedway or any other DIRT sanctioned race track in the 2000 season will start this feature event no further forward than the fifth place starting position. Using this qualifying procedure the regular Lebanon Valley drivers will still receive valuable modified points towards the overall championship and the huge Lebanon Valley point fund. Any outsiders interested in running will have the benefit of a legal draw rather than a handicapped position in the rear of the heat race. Expanding the existing Lebanon Valley rule of no feature winner starting a subsequent feature no further forward than fifth place to include all winners within the DIRT sanctioning body will keep the race more competitive. Tickets for this great event on Monday, May 29th are going fast and can be purchased by calling the speedway office. All seats are reserved and cost just $22.00 each. Gates open at 5pm with sprint car time trials at 6pm followed by heats at 7pm. Don't miss this exciting double header of World of Outlaws sprint cars and big block modifieds on the high banks of Lebanon Valley Speedway.
