Modine Recognized by Mack Trucks, Inc. for Delivery Performance
McHENRY, Ill.--May 10, 2000--Modine Manufacturing Company's plant here has been recognized by Mack Trucks for delivery performance. Of the hundreds of companies that are suppliers to Mack, only about 25 to date have been certified for delivery performance. This Modine plant provides Mack with serpentine air-conditioning condensers for use on Mack trucks assembled in Macungie, Pa. The McHenry plant was established in 1961 and employs 200 people. Modine has been a supplier to Mack since 1973.
Mack evaluated Modine's McHenry plant on a daily basis for a three-month time period in 1999. Modine was rated on the number and percentage of past-due parts; number of expediting activities required by Mack; impact on production; early and late shipments; random quality audits; and electronic data interchange capabilities. A point system was used to determine competency. To become certified, a supplier must get a score of no more than 50 points. Modine's McHenry, Ill., plant scored only five points.
"Modine was very pro-active in working toward meeting Mack's requirements," said Steve Eckel, material manager at Mack. "We were impressed at the initiative the plant took in stepping forward to get the job done and obtain delivery certification."
"Mack's Supplier Delivery Certification program is very strict, and Modine is very proud to have achieved certification," said David Lidester, operations manager for the Truck Division. "For example, the delivery requirement is zero days early and zero days late. We were also rated on the quality of our delivery, including paperwork and packing issues, the flexibility of our service, and our communication skills. Being able to meet these strict criteria was challenging and we are pleased to have met the challenge."
