8 May 2000

Companies Work Together to Increase Global Market Share

LOS ANGELES/COSTA MESA, Calif.--MSC.Software Corporation (MSC), the world's leading developer of simulation software, and Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), the world's ninth largest automotive manufacturer, today announced the signing of a million dollar plus partnership agreement to develop and integrate HMC's vehicle development process in reduced cycle times. The project is part of HMC's drive to continue to increase market share through state-of-the-art product quality and performance.

"Our efforts to increase our position in the global automotive market drive us to implement the industry's best practices for vehicle development," said Chai-Won Kim, Senior Executive Vice President Namyang R&D Center, of Hyundai. "MSC.Software's unique combination of automotive development process expertise and simulation tools will help us improve our processes through the effective use of up-front simulation."

"This project demonstrates MSC's unique value to the world's major automotive manufacturers," said Frank Perna Jr., Chairman and CEO of MSC.Software. "The combination of HMC's expert knowledge of automotive design with MSC's process integration services and leading-edge simulation technology will ensure that HMC is able to deliver on their primary business goal, to deliver the best possible cars to their customers. This effort confirms a long standing relationship of success."

HMC's ability to offer extensive warranty packages has been shown to provide a significant competitive advantage among buyers in the U.S. marketplace. A systematic approach to eliminate technological and manufacturing issues has led to a J. D. Power & Associates report that warranty claims have dropped by over 45% in the last two years. Sales of Hyundai cars surged 82% in 1999 when compared to the previous year.
