TRACKS: Tremont takes win #82 at Lebanon Valley Saturday Night
7 May 2000
WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont was the victor in the 30-lap modified feature Saturday night at Lebanon Valley. K.C. Goewey won the 20-lap sportsman feature and Ricky Duzlak took the street stock win. Paul LaRochelle won the IMCA modified main. Madsen Overhead Door's, Bilinski's Meat Products and Boomers Performance sponsored the night's festivities. Guy Sheldon grabbed the lead on the first lap of the 30-lap modified main and took off. Several cautions slowed the event in the early laps. Maynard Forrette, Dave Sanchez, Ronnie Johnson and J.R. Heffner brought out the caution on lap two. Only Johnson and Heffner made it back into the feature. Matt Quinn slowed with a right front flat tire on the restart. He got tagged from behind by Skip Fox and had to go pitside. Chris Kokosa and Rob Pitcher, driving the Chip's Automotive #28c also were involved in the incident. Eddie Marshall had a masterful save on the next restart as he was sent sideways coming off turn two. Marshall was able to save it and only lost two positions. Kenny Tremont had moved up from his 13th starting spot to sit fifth by lap six. While Sheldon was motoring away on the front there was some great racing for second through fifth between Leckonby, Marshall, Tremont and Blake. Dave Leckonby took over second on lap eleven while Marshall, Tremont and Blake raced three wide for third. Marshall took third on lap 14 while Tremont took over fourth. Blake pulled off a great save as he went spinning down the backstretch on lap 16. Sheldon drifted on the restart allowing Leckonby to take the lead and Tremont to grab second. Sheldon and Marshall came together on lap 18 ending Marshall's night. Tremont used the restart to take the lead and he quickly pulled away from the pack. Leckonby would have to fend off some late race charges from Hewitt to hang on for second. Hewitt had a strong run in third. Donnie Corellis finished in fourth and Dickie Larkin rounded out the top five. Only four cautions slowed the 20-lap sportsman feature. Stan Jablonka passed John Hotchkiss for the lead on a lap two. Don Miller took over second on lap four. K.C. Goewey started the race in the 13th position and was up to second on lap five with Sparky Lowe running third. Goewey made the pass for the lead on lap eight. The top five at the halfway point was Goewey, Jablonka, Lowe, George Marcus and Don Miller. Goewey was untouchable on the front and easily took the victory. Lowe held off a strong challenge from Marcus to finish second. Jablonka finished fourth and Miller rounded out the top five. Bobby Duzlak ended some early season woes by leading every lap of the 20-lap street stock feature. Jim Lagenback suffered a flat tire on lap three and looked out of contention, but he did recovered nicely to finish third. Several of the top runners suffered mechanical problems during the race. The first was Adam Haas as he slowed on the backstretch on lap 4. Several cars crashed trying to avoid Haas creating the fourth caution of the race. While under a lap six caution Robbie Speed slowed on the track and he went pitside. He returned to the race and made a spectacular exit on lap 16 as he car burst into flames going down the frontstretch. Speed was not injured. Al Blackburn spun out on lap one of the race, but came back to run a strong fifth by lap ten. His night came to an end early as well as Dan Burl spun and Blackburn tagged Burl hard. Bobby's younger brother, Ricky, grabbed second on lap 12. Ricky and Jim Lagenback waged a good battle for the second place throughout the remainder of the race. Scott Goversten saw a top five run disappear as his racer quit on lap 16. Ricky was never able to catch his older brother as Bobby cruised to victory. Lagenback followed the Duzlak boys for third with Todd Goldstein fourth and Nick Rogers fifth. Bobby Duzlak was disqualified after a post race inspection giving the win to his brother Ricky. Ed Bachand moved up to fifth as a result of the disqualification.
