Semcon Q1, Month by Month

    STOCKHOLM, Sweden--May 5, 2000--Q1 2000 has seen a great deal of activity within all four of Semcon's business areas. A selection of key events are described in brief below. Many of these events and business deals will take place during Q2.

    17 January: Interactive Driver Information - World Premiere in the New Volvo V70

    Volvo IT and Semcon strengthen their co-operation by launching a jointly produced solution for interactive driver information, as a complement to the printed manual. The product is the first of its kind.

    18 January: Ericsson Prioritises Co-operation With Semcon

    All Semcon companies have been appointed as Ericsson Preferred Suppliers and will therefore be Ericsson's prioritised supplier within the Technical and IS/IT areas.

    4 February: Semcon and Volvo Plan to Start a Joint Company

    Semcon announce that they have signed a Letter of Intent with Volvo Cars Components AB and Volvo Technology Transfer AB. The aim is to form a joint company for machine development, service and maintenance.

    15 February: 50 Employees At ABB are Offered Consultancy Posts At Semcon

    Semcon Engineering East AB signs a co-operation agreement with ABB Automation Systems AB and will offer over 50 ABB employees work as consultants at Semcon within the e-Design business area. The agreement will give Semcon better-trained staff as well as tying Semcon closer to ABB.

    7 March: Semcon Signs a Letter of Intent With Volvo Competence Centre At Skovde

    Semcon and Volvo Components AB have signed a Letter of Intent regarding the take-over by Semcon of the Volvo Competence Centre at Skovde, which performs business-adapted competence development. The move is in line with the Semcon strategy of providing holistic solutions.

    14 March: Semcon Starts a New Company Within IT

    Semcon announces the start of a new IT consultancy company. The new company will be led by the CEO Ulf Borjel, deputy CEO Sten Hellstrom and Technical Manager Bengt Ornegren, all of whom previously worked for Guide/Framfab. The aim is to provide uniform infrastructures for information handling.

    16 March: Semcon Extends Its Partnership With Valmet Karlstad

    Semcon and Valmet Karlstad AB sign an outsourcing agreement for the production of Valmet's customer documentation. The agreement means that Semcon will take over activities within this area and those Valmet staff affected are to be offered positions at Semcon. Semcon was chosen partly due to its interactive information production.

    20 March: Semcon Signs a Letter of Intent With the Pelmatic Group

    Semcon signs a Letter of Intent with the Pelmatic Group, with the intention of acquiring Pelmatic. The aim is to create a broader platform within the e-Design business area, and to strengthen Semcon's position in Denmark.

    22 March: Semcon First in the Nordic Region With Long WAP Training

    Semcon signs a general agreement with the Regional employment office in Gavle that includes a 24-week WAP training course. It is the first agreement of its kind in the Nordic region. The aim is to rapidly meet the market's demand for qualified WAP technicians.

    27 March: Semcon Designs a Production Plant for Pharmaceuticals in Denmark

    Semcon Industrial Design is commissioned by the Novo Nordisk Group of Denmark to oversee the rebuilding project of an insulin factory on Zeeland in Denmark. Semcon's experience of development assignments for the Swedish pharmaceuticals industry was the deciding factor in Novo Nordic's choice. The order is worth SEK 6 million.

    6 April: Semcon to Develop Engines At Volvo

    Semcon signs an agreement with Volvo Car Components AB for product development of engines. The agreement means that Semcon will work on site at Volvo mainly with electronics, technical information and mechanics.

    Q1: Semcon opens new offices

    New office in Malmo

    As part of its aggressive expansion in southern Sweden/Oresund, Semcon will be opening a new office in Malmo. The concentration will mainly be on e-Design and Industrial Design.

    New office in Uppsala

    Semcon will open a new office in Uppsala, with close proximity to the medical-technical and telecommunications industries and the University.
