Thrifty Doubles Fleet in Expansion to San Jose International Airport Rental Car Center
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 4 Thrifty Car Rental, in a major
expansion of its services to Silicon Valley, is opening in the new
consolidated Rental Car Center at San Jose International Airport, adding
personnel and more than doubling its airport fleet.
Thrifty will open Sunday with eight counter positions at the new Rental
Car Center, which will replace the current car rental counters in Terminals A
and C. A shuttle serving all car rental companies will run at five-minute
intervals and carry customers between the terminals and the new facility.
Thrifty is adding hundreds of new cars -- including a limited number of
Chrysler's retro-styled PT Cruiser -- more than doubling its rental fleet at
San Jose International. The company is also adding about 30 new staff members
to ensure airport customers receive top-notch service along with a great rate
on their rental.
The new center is an interim facility that airport-based car rental
companies will use for about two years until construction begins on a
permanent, eight-story garage for car rental operations, all part of a
$1.5 billion long-term improvement project at the airport.
The Rental Car Center is located at 2100 Airport Drive, north of Terminal
A, on an 11-acre site that will accommodate more than 1,200 rental vehicles.
Two modular buildings will house counters and offices for 10 car rental
companies.
Thrifty's new San Jose International location will be the company's 12th
in Silicon Valley and the East Bay, including in-terminal facilities at
Oakland International Airport.
