Exide Appoints James S. B. Chew as VP of Military Global Business UnitREADING, Pa., May 4 Exide Corporation (NYSE: EX), a global leader in the lead-acid battery business and electric-energy-storage solutions, announced today it has appointed James S. B. Chew, 38, as a vice president, responsible for its military global business unit. Chew will be responsible for sales and operations of Exide products for military customers around the world. Providing stored energy solutions for militaries is a substantial part of Exide's global business and includes, for example, providing batteries for United States military vehicles. Robert A. Lutz, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at Exide, said, "I have known James for many years now. He brings to Exide a unique combination of experience, including military structure and contacts, coupled with the marketing expertise of a consultant to the automotive industry." Previous to accepting his appointment, Chew was Program Manager, Air and Surface Weapons Technology, for the Office of Naval Research. He also worked for more than 12 years as a product-marketing consultant to the Dodge division of what is now DaimlerChrysler Corporation. Prior to those assignments he was the director for the business development office in the propulsion unit of Phillips Laboratory. He has a Master of Science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from California State Polytechnic University. He will work from the company's corporate headquarters in Reading, PA. As announced earlier this month, Exide has recently organized its businesses into global units, cutting across geographic boundaries for a more customer-focused approach. Motive Power (forklifts, electric vehicles and material handling equipment): Managed by Neil Bright, Executive Vice President, Motive Power; Bolton, UK.
