F.X. Coughlin Co. Announces New Packaging Division

    BELLEVILLE, Mich.--May 3, 2000--F.X. Coughlin Co. announces the establishment of a new division, Distance Packaging, a designer and integrator of highly customized supply chain packaging solutions to automotive OEMs and Tier One and Two suppliers with demanding or specific requirements.
    Distance Packaging services include expertise in export packaging design, integration of solutions into existing and/or evolving business infrastructures, management of supply base conformance to the chosen packaging system, and providing customers with a competitive economic advantage.
    "Distance Packaging brings to its customers the concept of living solutions," said Mark Bourgeau, COO for Distance Packaging. "This means we continuously evaluate and improve packaging strategies based on market changes, the customer's vision, and cost-reduction opportunities.

"Through our staff of engineers, strategic partnerships and alliances with world-class vendors, each customer is assured the best, most efficient packaging solution to meet their unique requirements. We provide each customer efficient line-side delivery with fewer containers, shipments, labor and waste."

"Distance Packaging was established to become the leading developer and integrator of automotive packaging systems in North America and Europe. To achieve that, we take into consideration everything from the manufactured part to be shipped, to consumption, to final disposition of the packaging -- and everything in-between, such as environmental impact and line-side ergonomics."
    Fifty percent of the company's sales are expected to be outside the U.S. and 50 percent are expected to be outside Coughlin Logistics.
    Distance Packaging is currently a $14-million company and anticipates $20 million by the end of 2000. The 82,000 square-foot location at the Crossroads Distribution Center in Belleville, Mich. houses 35 employees in manufacturing and staging and 15 in administration.
