Viasystems Group, Inc. is Well Positioned to Lead Technology Trend

ST. LOUIS--May 2, 2000--Viasystems Group, Inc. (NYSE: VG), a leading global provider of electronics manufacturing services and producer of Flip Chip substrates announced today they have successfully introduced an innovative method for electrical testing of ultra-fine circuit boards - a step crucial in guaranteeing high yields in subsequent system assembly. With the introduction of this innovative test method, Viasystems re-asserts its leading position in supplying very high-density substrates in high volumes to both telecommunication and automotive markets where proven reliability are of extreme importance.
Traditional methods for testing these types of substrates rely on fragile and delicate mechanical grid-based pin interfaces. This new approach eliminates mechanical complexity and test-grid limitations. Using a robust interface module, test signals are routed through this module from the test electronics to the probed sites. At this critical interface, rather than using traditional, delicate mechanical means, a conductive polymer is used to provide a robust, reliable electrical contact. The additional benefit of eliminating any possible mechanical damage to the test point is a critical requirement of direct die attachment technology.
Underlining the importance of this capability, Francois Desjardins, vice president and general manager, Canada and Puerto Rico operations, said, "This breakthrough will allow us to focus on our traditional core competency of continuous yield improvement and aggressive reduction of cycle times."
Based in St. Louis, Mo., Viasystems Group, Inc. is a leading global electronics manufacturing services provider with over 20,000 employees and 29 manufacturing facilities in eight countries, supplying customers in the telecommunications, networking, automotive and consumer electronics industries. Viasystems is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, trading under the symbol "VG."
