Kia Sales Up 17 Percent Over April 1999

    IRVINE, Calif., May 2 Kia today announced sales of
12,422 vehicles for April, an increase of 17 percent over last April.
    The major contributing factor to April's solid performance was a
77-percent increase in sales of the Kia Sportage sport-utility vehicle.
Year-to-date sales of 44,686 are 17 percent ahead of last year's sales.
    Kia Motors America is the U.S. sales, marketing and service arm of Kia
Motors Corp. in Seoul, South Korea.
