Toyota Announces Best-Ever April Sales for the Fourth Consecutive YearTORRANCE, Calif., May 2 Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported best-ever April sales of 132,180 vehicles, an increase of 15.7 percent over last year's record-setting month, and the company's fourth consecutive best-ever April. "Consumer confidence and a surging economy continue to energize one another," said Jim Press, TMS executive vice president. "The combination has been remarkable, fueling unrepentant consumer spending that has defied predictions of leveling off." Both TMS sales divisions recorded best-ever April sales. The Toyota Division reported record-breaking sales of 116,417, an increase of 17.0 percent. The Lexus Division enjoyed its best-ever April with sales of 15,763 vehicles, an increase of 6.7 percent. Best-ever April sales also were recorded by Toyota passenger and light truck segments, up 16.6 percent and 17.7 percent respectively, and by the Lexus light truck category, up 34.2 percent. Driving the Toyota Division's record-breaking month for passenger cars was the all-new Avalon full-size sedan with best-ever April sales of 9,329, up 92.2 percent. The all-new Celica sport coupe continued its sales momentum with 5,055 units sold, an increase of 786.5 percent, while the all-new ECHO subcompact posted strong sales of 3,981 units. Toyota Division light truck sales were paced by the popular Sienna minivan which recorded its best-ever April with 9,247 units sold, up 7.4 percent. The Tundra full-size pickup continued its sales surge with 8,095 units sold. The Lexus Division's record-breaking sales month was paced by the popular RX 300 sport utility vehicle with best-ever April sales of 7,619, an increase of 42.6 percent over the same period last year. Sales of North American-built vehicles accounted for 62.2 percent of total April sales. There were 25 selling days in April compared to 26 last year.
