E. R. (Skip) Autry Jr. Named Vice President, Finance of INTERMET
    TROY, Mich., May 2 INTERMET Corporation (Nasdaq: INMT)
announced today that E. R. (Skip) Autry, Jr. has been named Vice President,
Finance, effective May 8, 2000.  In this position, Autry will assume
responsibility for financial operations of the company and will also be a
member of the Corporate Operating Committee.  Autry will be based at INTERMET
Corporate Headquarters in Troy, Michigan.

financial expertise," said John Doddridge, INTERMET's Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer.  "His experience and proven track record will be a valuable
addition to the INTERMET senior management team."
    Autry, a Certified Public Accountant, has an extensive background in
finance.  He comes to INTERMET after five years with Key Plastics, where for
the past two years he served as Vice President, Operations.  Prior to this
position, he was Key Plastics' Chief Financial Officer.  From 1986 to 1995, he
held a number of financial positions with increasing responsibility at the
former Chrysler Corporation, including Finance Executive - Quality and
Productivity; Director of Corporate Accounting, and ultimately as Controller,
Corporate Staffs.  Autry began his career at Coopers and Lybrand and rose to
the position of Senior Audit Manager responsible for the worldwide audit
coordination of a Big Three company.
    Autry received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Wayne State
University and a master's in business administration from Michigan State
University.
    He and his family make their home in Birmingham, Michigan.
