i2 Solutions Used in Renault Distribution Strategy; New Distribution Project Aims to Reduce Car Delivery Time to Two Weeks
DALLAS--May 1, 2000--i2 Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ITWO), the leading provider of intelligent eBusiness solutions, announced today that its Demand Planner and Collaboration Planner solutions have been selected by French automaker Renault for its new distribution project.Renault's goal is to deliver cars through a build-to-order organization within 15 days of taking a customer order. They hope to achieve this goal by the end of 2001. In addition to delivering cars to customers more rapidly, Renault aims to cut its inventory of cars in half, significantly reduce delivery costs, and better promote the diversity of its product offerings. In doing so, Renault will significantly improve its European distribution network with several thousand points-of-sale in 16 countries to better meet customers' demands.
"i2 has the experience we need to improve our commercial forecast and thus promise delivery of new cars to our customers within two weeks," said Andre Bodis, Renault Nouvelle Distribution Project general manager. "i2 has carried out projects like this in similar environments, so we knew they could meet our requirements."
The i2 solutions are expected to be deployed by Renault before the end of 2000 and will contribute to the coordination of car production and distribution. With the help of i2, Renault will have the tools to optimize planning for engines, gearings and specific components.
"With our demand planning solutions, Renault should eventually be able to offer their customers the exact cars they want in record time, while reducing inventories of unsold cars," said Trevor Miles, i2's industry director for the Automotive and Industrial Business Unit in Europe. "Our goal for Renault is that no cars should have to wait for customers, and no customers should have to wait for cars."
With i2 solutions, new distribution methods should allow Renault and its sales network to gain a substantial competitive advantage. Through full collaboration between the car manufacturer and its distribution network in the sales forecast area, Renault believes that it will be able to better match actual market demands. The project is conducted in partnership with Andersen Consulting.
