Visteon Corporation Creates the Ultimate Driving Experience At its America 2000 ExpoBOSTON, May 1 Innovative technology that creates the driving experience consumers want -- and governments need -- is on display by Visteon Corporation at the ITS America 2000 Expo in Boston (Booth 2006). Visteon is showcasing powerful technology that enables drivers to personalize their cars to fit their lifestyles, stay connected to the world around them, and feel a greater sense of security inside their vehicle. "Visteon strives to understand consumer expectations and the requirements of governments, then designs systems and products to meet these demands," said Jim Wynalek, Vice President - Chief Technology Officer of Visteon. "As consumers spend more time in their vehicle and rely on technology to do more than ever before, we seek to create products to meet these needs -- and to provide a driving experience as safe as possible." Revolutionary technology created by Visteon includes: Driver Vision at Night - a unique solution to improve driver visibility at night, the time when most accidents occur. The system uses near-infrared technology to capture the road scene ahead, which then appears as an enhanced image on the driver's windscreen -- allowing the driver to keep eyes on the road at all times. ICES (Information, Communication, Entertainment, Safety And Security System) - Visteon's in-car computing platform. With the use of simple voice commands engineered by Visteon Voice Technology, ICES provides drivers with access to the Internet where they can check e-mail and obtain real-time information such as news, weather reports and stock prices. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - tracks the speed and position of a vehicle in the lane ahead and automatically adjusts the ACC-equipped vehicle's speed to maintain a safe time interval between the two vehicles. The driver accelerates to the desired cruising speed, then taps a button on the steering wheel to activate. The equipped vehicle slows (or accelerates) to maintain a pre-set interval without exceeding the pre-set cruising speed. This provides comfortable spacing between vehicles without driver interventions, and also maintains consistent performance in cases of poor visibility. Telematics Audio System - combines in-vehicle navigation with the functions of a premium audio system. The system uses voice recognition to provide consumers with the ability to use navigation, audio and cellular phone systems without taking their eyes off the road or hands off the wheel. The single-box solution minimizes component and system costs, reduces diagnostics and manufacturing complexity, while maximizing flexibility for dealer installations and upgrades. NavMate(R) navigation system - offers turn-by-turn route guidance, a color screen display, turn icons and voice commands. A destination can be selected by entering the location through display controls and an on-screen menu. And, a global positioning system receiver identifies the vehicle's location. Satellite Digital Audio Radio System - provides continuous, cross-country, in-vehicle music, information, and entertainment. A subscription-based service, this technology promises to do for radio what cable television did for TV by linking drivers with up to 100 radio stations at any one time.
