Detroit Diesel Offers Series 60 Electronic Engine For Hazardous Petroleum Offshore Environments
HOUSTON, May 1 During the Offshore Technology Conference,
Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) (NYSE: DDC) introduced their certified,
Series 60 electronic engine for hazardous petroleum offshore environments.
The Series 60 engine is available in certified performance ratings of
400 hp at 2100 rpm or 450 hp at 2100 rpm, both with 1550 lb.ft. peak torque at
1200 rpm, and 500 hp at 2100 rpm with 1650 lb. ft. peak torque. Additional,
higher ratings will follow in the near future. Each rating meets EPA, Euro
and IMO non-road, exhaust emission regulations.
The Series 60 engine has been adapted to the rugged offshore environment.
The offshore petroleum environment has the opportunity for gasses and fumes to
be present. With a spark or high surface temperature, these gasses could
ignite.
New features include a hazardous environment DDEC IV electronic control
system that was recently certified for hazardous locations around the world.
A single, standard hazardous environment DDEC package has been developed that
meets North American, European, and Asian hazardous environment certification
requirements. The various DDEC electronic components have been certified by
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and NEMKO according to various UL, CSA, and
CENELEC standards for operation in both Class I Division 2 and Group II Zone 2
locations for all gas groups. The certified DDEC system, when used in
conjunction with recently developed water-cooled external components, have
made the Series 60 the first electronically controlled engine to be certified
for hazardous environment operation.
The Series 60 is one of the industry's most rugged, durable, and reliable
engines and has been a proven performer in hundreds of construction and
industrial, gen-set, on-highway, and marine applications. Series 60 engines
are operating in the petroleum market with 40,000 hours of trouble-free
operation.
This new certified Series 60 engine offering demonstrates DDC's commitment
to the petroleum industry. DDC has sold over 180,000 engines into the
petroleum market in operation worldwide.
