Daewoo Motor America Links Dealerships Nationwide With Wyse Winterm Windows-Based Terminals

Korean Automotive Giant Connects Expanding Dealership Network With
Thin Clients to Stay On Top Of Ever-Changing IT Environment

Wyse(R) Technology, the worldwide leader in thin-client computing, today announced the nationwide deployment of Wyse Winterm(tm) Windows(R)-based terminals by one of Korea's leading automotive manufacturers, Daewoo Motor America. Throughout the next few months, all 450 Daewoo dealerships across the United States will be linked with Wyse Winterm 3350SE Windows-based terminals as Daewoo's migration to servers running Microsoft(tm) Windows 2000 and Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) for Windows 2000 is completed. With a centrally managed Wyse thin-client solution, Daewoo is able to more efficiently manage parts ordering procedures, credit and finance reporting and service and warranty claims.
The Wyse Winterm thin-client solution was developed and deployed for Daewoo by Fireline Network Solutions, a Wyse Authorized Partner in Los Angeles, Calif. Fireline migrated Daewoo from PC-based terminals to Wyse Windows-based terminals, greatly simplifying deployment of new desktop devices and updated software applications and allowing the rapidly growing dealer network to stay abreast of the technological landscape. The Wyse Winterm Windows-based terminals are configured prior to shipment to the dealerships, enabling Daewoo support personnel to set up new users in moments and minimizing the time necessary to bring a dealership to full operational status. Additionally, server-based computing allows one-time, centralized software updates to all desktops throughout the nationwide network of 450 dealerships, ensuring the network is always operating with the most advanced applications available.
"Going with Wyse thin-client technology and Fireline's services was the most logical solution for our ever-changing environment, and has allowed us to realize great savings in up-front procurement costs and longer term total cost of ownership" said David Hendrie, Network Administrator at Daewoo Motor America. "We're very impressed with the amount of flexibility and total cost savings we've realized through this network-wide deployment."

WINDOWS 2000 AND THIN CLIENTS - THE CHOICE FOR EXPANDING NETWORKS

Organizations worldwide such as Daewoo Motor America are recognizing the simplicity and power of thin-client computing. Wyse believes that such adoption will continue to increase with the recent debut of Windows 2000. Windows 2000 is the first operating system from Microsoft to allow plug-and-play functionality with thin clients right out of the box thanks to the Terminal Services option included in all Windows 2000 Server software.. With the rapid growth that companies like Daewoo are experiencing comes significant IT and business challenges that can be solved or greatly minimized with the turn-key functionality offered by Wyse Winterm terminals and servers running Windows 2000.
"As the worldwide leader in thin-client computing, Wyse is experienced in providing the right solution for corporate IT networks of all sizes," said Jeff McNaught, Vice President of Customer Marketing for Wyse Technology. "Wyse Windows-based terminals are the ideal, highly adaptable desktop system of choice for growing networks like those being employed by major corporations like Daewoo Motor America. The reduced costs and support burdens of thin clients along with the plug-and-play connectivity offered by Windows 2000 makes them a logical choice for networks where flexibility is key."

    THINOVATION GIVES ORGANIZATIONS EXTREME FLEXIBILITY

Wyse's recently announced Thinovation initiative changes the thin-client landscape through the delivery of a suite of Personal Thin Clients, marrying Wyse's vision of helping people communicate and access information affordably with the convergence of the key benefits of thin clients and PCs to deliver the widest range of information access devices. Wyse's new Thinovation initiative mirrors the trends of the Post-PC Era, proving that the traditional computing needs of both the enterprise and the general consumer are inherently the same and can be met through Wyse's Personal Thin Client offerings. Through this high level of flexibility, Thinovation gave Daewoo the widest possible choice of options to find the thin-client desktop solution that best met their specific needs.
