Standard MEMS, Inc. Opens Microphotonics Technology Center

    BURLINGTON, Mass.--April 27, 2000--Standard MEMS, Inc., announced today the opening of its 15,000 square foot Microphotonics Technology Center located in Southbridge, Mass. The Microphotonics Group will focus on MOEMS (Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems), MOEMS component packaging, integrated optics, fiber optics, active and passive photonic components, and optical systems integration. The Microphontonics Technology Center adds to Standard MEMS, Inc. current strength in optical, electrical, mechanical, and material science fields providing the necessary skill set to invent, design, simulate, fabricate, and test microphotonic components and subsystems in support of product development programs for our customers.
    Currently, Standard MEMS, Inc. is a lead member of a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Advanced Technology Program (ATP), with the goal of developing low-cost, high-volume fabrication methods for MOEMS. It has also developed and commercialized non-contact interferometric pressure, motion and strain sensors based on fiber Bragg gratings. In addition, Standard MEMS, Inc. has patents pending on optical beam-steering components and a latching optical switch.
