Circuit City Promotes John W. Froman To Exec VP- Merchandising

Circuit City Stores, Inc. Promotes John W. Froman To Executive Vice President - Merchandising
    RICHMOND, Va., April 27 Circuit City Stores, Inc.
announced today that John W. Froman has been promoted to the position of
executive vice president -- merchandising.
    Froman has served as senior vice president - merchandising since August
1997, with responsibility for all merchandising functions, including buying,
inventory management and space planning.  Froman is a 14-year Circuit City
veteran.  He joined the company in 1986, beginning his career in store
operations.  In 1988, he was appointed general manager of and led the
company's entry into south Florida.  He was named director of corporate
operations in 1990, promoted to vice president in 1992 and became president of
the company's Central Division operations in 1994.
    "John's background in store operations, the strong relationships he has
built with the vendor community and his ability to bring to market the
products and services that consumers expect in our stores are helping Circuit
City maintain a leading position in an exciting and growing consumer
electronics environment," said W. Alan McCollough, president and chief
operating officer of Circuit City Stores, Inc.  "This promotion recognizes
John's leadership skills and the continuing contribution that he will make to
