Rande Somma has been named president of North America for the Automotive
Systems Group. Also at the Automotive Systems Group, John Fiori has been named
president of Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
Somma -- based in Plymouth, Michigan -- will direct all of the company's
automotive operations in North America. Fiori -- based in Burscheid, Germany
-- will direct the company's automotive operations in the rest of the world,
including Japan.
Johnson Controls is the world's leading supplier of automotive interior
systems.
Both executives have had extensive careers in the motor vehicle supplier
industry and many years of successful experience at Johnson Controls. Somma,
who joined Johnson Controls in 1988, had been serving as the automotive
group's president of worldwide marketing and business development. Fiori, who
joined Johnson Controls in 1987, previously held the title president, Europe,
Africa and Latin America, for the firm's automotive unit.
"With these leadership appointments, we maintain and enhance our focus on
customer satisfaction, world-class performance and business growth," said John
Barth, president and chief operating officer for Johnson Controls.
As Somma and Fiori take on expanded job responsibilities, another senior
automotive executive at Johnson Controls has been named to a new position for
the corporation. On April 20, officials at the company's world headquarters in
Milwaukee announced the election of Michael Johnston as president of
E-Business for Johnson Controls. Johnston previously served as president,
North America and Asia-Pacific for the company's Automotive Systems Group.
In his new role, Johnston is responsible for creating and implementing a
unified, worldwide electronic business strategy for Johnson Controls.
The automotive business of Johnson Controls -- which employs more than
65,000 people at 275 facilities worldwide -- achieved US$12.1 billion in sales
for the 1999 fiscal year. In model-year 2000, it will supply interior products
for more than 23 million vehicles.
