INTERMET Wins Toyota Quality Awards
TROY, Mich., April 26 INTERMET Corporation (Nasdaq: INMT),
one of the world's leading independent manufacturers of cast-metal automotive
components, announced today that it has received two awards of special
distinction from Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc., in
recognition of quality and improvement performance during 1999. INTERMET's
Archer Creek Foundry in Lynchburg, Virginia, earned the Excellent Award for
part quality and a Certificate of Achievement for Value Improvement
Performance from Toyota. It is the second year in a row INTERMET has received
the Excellent Award for quality.
The Archer Creek Foundry produces ductile-iron rear axle castings for
Toyota's plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. Approximately 500,000 parts were
shipped to Toyota in 1999 with no rejections, resulting in a PPM (parts per
million) rejection rate of zero.
Commenting on the awards, Michael J. Ryan, INTERMET's executive vice
president of operations, said: "We are very pleased to have received this
honor from Toyota. It not only recognizes our 1999 performance, it also shows
INTERMET's commitment to consistently deliver quality products to Toyota in
the future."
